Friday, April 6, an Israeli sniper shot 30 year old photo journalist Yasser Murtaja while he was reporting on behalf of the Norwegian Refugee Council the protests taking place at the Gaza fence under the slogan of "The Great Return March".

Op vrijdag 30 maart heeft de Israëlische bezettingsmacht aan het gevangenishekken rondom de Gazastrook een bloedbad aangericht onder ongewapende manifestanten. Met inzet van tanks en drones en de ontplooiing rond het hekken van speciale eenheden en meer dan 100 scherpschutters...


BACBI: "Le gouvernement belge doit mettre la pression sur Israël" (Le Soir+, Forum, 11 avril):

Profondément indignés par les événements, les membres de la Campagne belge pour le boycott académique et culturel d'Israël (BACBI) condamnent le massacre que les forces d'occupation israéliennes ont commis contre des Gazaouis, ce vendredi 30 mars, près de la clôture autour de l'étroite Bande de terre de 360 kilomètres carrés, transformée depuis plus de dix ans en une prison à ciel ouvert.


"In Response to Israel's Latest Massacre in Gaza: Arms Embargo Now!" (Palestinian Grassroots Anti-apartheid Wall Campaign, April 2):

Last Friday, Israel yet again used Palestinian civilians as guinea pigs in its weapons laboratory, testing its new teargas-firing drones against civilians in Gaza. The export of Israeli military technology, "field-tested" on Palestinians, contributes substantially to financing Israel's oppression of Palestinians and military aggression against other nations.

La journaliste israélienne Amira Hass donne une leçon de politique et d'honnêteté à ses concitoyens et au reste du monde, en expliquant toute la conscience politique contenue dans l'initiative de la Marche du Retour engagée par la société civile palestinienne.


"Thousands demonstrate at Gaza border in 'Burn Israeli Flags' Friday" (Ahmad Kabariti, April 13):

"I came today for the third time, to tell the Israeli soldiers that if my grandfather was unable to return to Al-Majdal, [where the Israeli city of Ashkelon now stands] then my father will do it, and if my father fails, I will return one day" -- 7-year-old Deema Abu Sharekh on the day of burning the Israeli flag at the Gaza border.


"Israëlische leger doodt acht demonstranten en een journalist" (The Rights Forum, 7 april):

Onder de 9 doden was de journalist Yasser Murtaja. Hij kreeg een kogel in de buik en stierf later op de dag. Nog zeker 5 andere journalisten liepen, ondanks hun duidelijke herkenbaarheid, schotwonden op. Onder de doden waren ook twee tieners, een jongen van 16 en een jongen van 17.


"UNESCO condemns Israeli killing of journalist Murtaja" (PIC, April 11):

UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) on Tuesday condemned the Israeli army's killing of Palestinian photojournalist Yaser Murtaja while he was covering the Great March of Return in Gaza on Friday.


"Journalists frequently target of Israeli aggression during Great Return March" (Students for Justice in Palestine - the Netherlands, 11 april):

On the 2nd Friday of the protests in Gaza, reporters are the main target of Israeli aggression. Israel is aiming to prevent reports on their crimes against the Palestinian people.


New York Times, Editorial: "Israel's Violent Response to Nonviolent Protests" (April 11):

Yasser Murtaja was a self-taught photojournalist who reported on his community and had the distinction of doing camerawork for a documentary by Ai Weiwei.That wouldn't be a life-threatening career...  Picture: Mourners of the Palestinian journalist Yasser Murtaja carried his body during his funeral in Gaza City (Mahmud Hams).


"The Death of Journalism in Gaza" (Don Carson, The Palestine Chronicle, April 13):

The US government and media endlessly claim Israel has a right to defend itself and how retaliation by Israel - it is always called retaliation - is always justified. When Israel attacks Gaza the Palestinians are denied the same right of defence.


"Israel Confirms Video of Sniper Shooting Unarmed Palestinian, as Soldiers Cheer, Is Genuine" (Robert Mackey, The Intercept, April 10):

Israel's military confirmed the authenticity of a video showing the shooting of a Palestinian protester in Gaza by an Israeli sniper and the cheers of his fellow soldiers.


HRW: "Israel: Gaza Killings Unlawful, Calculated" (Human Rights Watch, April 3):

Senior Israeli officials who unlawfully called for use of live ammunition against Palestinian demonstrations who posed no imminent threat to life bear responsibility for the killings of 14 demonstrators in Gaza and the injuring of hundreds on March 30, 2018.


"Israel using 'strange gases' against protesters in Gaza" (MEMo, April 9):

Israeli occupation forces used "strange" and "unknown" gases against unarmed, peaceful protesters in Gaza, Quds Press reported the central commission for documentation and pursuit of Israeli war criminals -Tawtheeq saying.


Denis Sieffert: "Gaza, un désastre moral" (Politis, 4 avril):

Ce qui s'est passé vendredi 30 mars sur la frontière séparant Gaza du territoire israélien mérite, hélas, de s'inscrire dans la sinistre tradition de la répression coloniale. Celle de Sétif et Guelma, en mai 1945, ou de Madagascar, en mars 1947.

B'Tselem, une ONG israélienne défendant les droits des Palestiniens, a publié des encarts dans des médias avec comme titre: "Désolé commandant, je ne tire pas".


Uri Avnery: "Eyeless in Gaza" (Gush Shalom - Israeli Peace Bloc, April 14):

WRITE DOWN: "I, Uri Avnery, soldier number 44410 of the Israel army, hereby dissociate myself from the army sharpshooters who murder unarmed demonstrators along the Gaza Strip, and from their commanders, who give them the orders, up to the commander in chief. We don't belong to the same army, or to the same state. We hardly belong to the same human race..."

Ramzy Baroud: "Why Israel Feels Threatened by Popular Resistance in Palestine" (The Palestine Chronicle, April 11):

Why did Israel kill many unarmed Gaza protesters and wound over 2,000 on Friday, March 30 and on the following days, when they clearly posed no threat to Israeli soldiers?


"Yonatan Shapira: 'Israëls apartheid heeft niet enkel invloed op Palestijnen, maar op ieder van ons'" (Alice Devenyns, MO*, 6 maart):

Wat gebeurt er als je je rug keert naar je vaderland? Wat als dat vaderland Israël is? We vroegen het aan Yonatan Shapira, die besloot het doen en laten van zijn Israël niet langer onvoorwaardelijk te steunen.


Yumna Patel: "Tear gas and terror: A Palestinian education under occupation" (Middle East Eye, April 2):

NABLUS - The Israeli soldiers came as children were playing outside their village school south of Nablus. Within minutes tear gas had engulfed the playground, stones were thrown, and a 10-year-old boy was shot in the head with a rubber-coated steel bullet.


Emily Maier: "Why young Jews and Democrats are waving goodbye to AIPAC" (Haaretz archive, March 6):

As long as they insist on supporting and maintaining the occupation of millions of Palestinians in the West Bank, East Jerusalem and Gaza, progressives will turn away from pro-Israel advocacy in increasing numbers -- both within and outside the Jewish community.

"Rim Banna: A Symbol of Life and Unity" (Louis Brehony, The Palestine Chronicle, March 25):

The body of Palestinian vocalist and songwriter Rim Banna was laid to rest in her home city of Nazareth on March 24, 2018, after a struggle with cancer that never reduced her determination to sing and resist.


Boycott:

"The Irish National Teachers Organisation in support of BDS" (IPSC on Facebook, April 5):)

INTO has voted to fully support the Irish Congress of Trade Union (ICTU) position on Palestine - in other words, full support for the BDS Movement for freedom, justice and equality in Palestine.The INTO motion focuses in particular on the abuses of Palestinian children by the Israeli state, and calls for the further "develop[ment] solidarity with Palestinian schools, teachers and trade unions"

"Dublin Becomes First European Capital to Endorse BDS for Palestinian Rights & Drops Hewlett Packard for Its Complicity in Israeli Apartheid" (BNC, April 11):

"Dublin has offered the strongest response to date to Israel’s latest massacre against unarmed Palestinian protesters in the occupied and besieged Gaza Strip. This is the most impressive win yet for the BDS movement in 2018" (Abdulrahman Abunahel, BNC Gaza coordinator ).


Cork: "Immediate Expulsion of all Israeli Diplomats from Ireland" (April 9):

Cork City Council passed the following motion: "CCC calls on the Irish government to condemn the killings in Gaza, take diplomatic action by expelling a number of its diplomats, and recognise the State of Palestine".


"Students vote to support justice and human rights for Palestine by backing BDS campaign" (USI, April 5):

Today, the Union of Students in Ireland (USI) has voted to support justice and human rights for Palestine at the annual student Congress in Galway. The motion came before over 250 students from across Ireland voting to join the global movement for Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS).


"50+ NYU Student Groups Endorse BDS Movement for Palestinian Human Rights" (Medium, April 9):

We support the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions movement for Palestinian human rights as it is a non-violent method of resisting Israeli apartheid from abroad.


"Danish pension giant divests from Motorola over ties to Israeli settlements" (MEMo, March 7):

Danish pension fund giant Sampension has officially excluded Motorola over the latter's ties to Israel's illegal settlements in the occupied Palestinian territory (oPt).


"ANC calls for cultural boycott of Israel" (The Citizen, April 4):

The call for a cultural boycott came simultaneously as the South African government strongly condemned the Israeli armed forces for the killing of 17 Palestinians, and the injuring of hundreds of others, over the last week as Gazans protested the continued Israel siege of the coastal enclave.

"BDS Calls on Argentina to Cancel Football Game in Israel" (Telesur, April 8):

The Argentine Committee of Solidarity with Palestine is calling on Argentina's national football team to cancel their June 9, friendly match against Israel's national football team prior to the World Cup in Russia.


"Pedaling for Palestinian Rights: 20 Cities Around the World demand UCI and Giro d'Italia #RelocateTheRace" (BDS, March 13):

Cyclists and supporters of Palestinian human rights took to the streets in across the world on Saturday, March 10, 2018 for the #RelocateTheRace International Day of Action.


"Jeremy Corbyn calls for review of U.K. arms sales to Israel over Gaza border deaths" (JTA, Haaretz, April 9):

Labour head Jeremy Corbyn called for a review of arms sales to Israel in a message condemning its "illegal and inhumane" actions against Palestinians protesting on the border with Gaza.

"Israel holds 340 Palestinian students" (MEMo, March 11):

"Some 340 university students are held in Israeli prisons," Education Minister Sabri Saidam told a press conference. Last week, Israeli forces detained Omar al-Keswani, head of the student council at Birzeit University.


"Le Parlement israélien " légalise " l'expulsion des Palestiniens de Jérusalem pour motif politique" (Communiqué du l'AFPS, 10 mars):

Les Palestiniens de Jérusalem-Est vivent, depuis l'occupation en 1967 et l'annexion illégale de Jérusalem-Est par l'État d'Israël en 1980, sous un statut de " résidents permanents " dans leur propre ville. Ali Abunimah: "EU lawmaker demands investigation of Israel lobby smears" (The Electronic Intifada, 9 March):

Ana Gomes, a center-left lawmaker from Portugal, is being denounced by Israel lobby groups as anti-Semitic after she publicly criticized them for attempting to block her from hosting Palestinian human rights campaigner Omar Barghouti for a talk at the European Parliament in Brussels last week.

Tout au long de sa carrière de metteur-en-scène et de réalisateur de film israélo-palestinien, Michel Khleifi a cherché de faire un portrait de la Palestine et son âme. Khleifi est né à Nazareth et vit en exil à Bruxelles depuis 1970. Le 28 avril, Khleifi nous présentera "Ma'loul célèbre sa Destruction", un court-métrage de 30 minutes.

  • ter herdenking van 70 jaar NAKBA waarbij in 1948  800.000 Palestijnen verdreven werden;
  • uit protest tegen de start van de GIRO vanuit Jeruzalem;
  • uit protest tegen de erkenning van Jeruzalem als hoofdstad van Israël door president Trump;
  • uit protest tegen de opsluiting van honderden Palestijnse minderjarigen.

Afspraak om 10u30 aan het Centraal Station in Brussel.

Aankomst rond 16u aan het Centraal Station, waar we aansluiten bij de actie van ABP (Association belgo-palestinienne)
