BA4P: The Arab & Muslim World
  • Ramzy BAROUD, "Palestine is my cause: Arabs reaffirm support for Palestinians, rejection of the Occupation" " (MEMo, Jan 30, 2023): click here!
The latest Arab Opinion Index 2022 is yet more proof that Arab societies are diverse in every possible way, from their assessment of their economic situation and living conditions to their take on immigration, state institutions and democracy. With one single exception: Palestine. 76 per cent of all respondents to the poll, which is carried out annually by the Arab Centre for Research and Policy Studies in Doha, said that Palestine is a cause for all Arabs, not Palestinians alone.
  • Dana EL KURD, "De-Normalizing Israeli Normalization at the World Cup" (Jewish Currents, Newsletters, December 13, 2022): click here!
At the international soccer tournament, Qatari anti-normalization activists as well as ordinary spectators have put Palestinian solidarity in the spotlight. In Doha’s public squares, crowds cheering Arab teams to victory have broken out into pro-Palestine chants and songs like “Mawtini,” the Palestinian and Arab anthem. Euphoric spectators have draped the Palestinian flag across their shoulders and waved it during matches.

  • Amena ElASHKAR: « Disasters multiply for Palestinians in Lebanon » (The Electronic Intifada, 20 Oct 2022): click here!
Ibrahim Mansour had spent six months looking for work. He went to every coffee shop in Nahr al-Bared refugee camp and the nearby Lebanese city of Tripoli asking for jobs. It was all to no avail. “I am almost 30 and I still don’t have a regular job,” he said. The only work he has found in recent years has been as a laborer on projects to rebuild parts of Nahr al-Bared that were destroyed back in 2007. Deeply frustrated, Mansour decided to emigrate. With the hope of reaching Europe, he set out on a voyage from Tripoli last month. The voyage proved disastrous. Overcrowded, the boat sank off the coast of Tartous, a port in Syria. Almost 100 people drowned. Of them at least two dozen were Palestinians.
  • Ramzy BAROUD: « Despite Abraham Accords, Palestine is a deeply rooted emotional, cultural and spiritual issue for Arabs and Muslims » (Informed Comment, August 9, 2022): click here!
It seemed that it was all but a done deal: Israel was finally managing to bend the Arabs to its will, and Palestine was becoming a marginal issue that no longer defined Israel’s relations with its neighbours. Indeed, normalisation with Israel was, well, normal, and the Arabs, it seemed, had finally been tamed. Not. So. Fast. Many events demonstrate the opposite.

The League Assistant Secretary-General for Palestine and the Occupied Arab Territories Affairs Saed Abu Ali made the remarks at the 95th meeting of the Arab boycott offices in Cairo. He said Israel's international boycott had achieved success at both popular and official levels.

Le terme de « civilisation judéo-chrétienne » est né au siècle dernier. Pourtant, quand on parle du Maghreb, il serait serait plus juste de parler de civilisation « judéo-musulmane. »
