Thirteen years ago I knew very little about Israel-Palestine. Like most Americans, this seemed to be a distant, confusing conflict that had little to do with me. I was unaware –again, like most Americans – that American taxpayers give Israel over $8 million per day, more than we give to any other nation. [Now over $10 million per day.]

France24 TV suspended renowned Palestinian journalist Laila Odeh on Saturday, after opening an investigation into her use of “pro-Palestine” terminology on her personal social media accounts, the Middle East Monitor reported. The television network accused Odeh of “incitement” and “anti-Semitism” for using the term “martyr” in reference to Palestinians killed by Israel and “1948 lands” when referring to the land of Palestine under the British Mandate before Israel’s establishment.

On January 19, during one of its raids in the Occupied West Bank, the Israeli military arrested a Palestinian journalist, Abdul Muhsen Shalaldeh, near the town of Al-Khalil (Hebron). This is just the latest of a staggering number of violations against Palestinian journalists, and against freedom of expression.

  • Kathryn SHIHADAH, "Social media’s history of suppressing Palestine content " Israel-Palestine News, Dec 12, 2022): click here!
Social media platforms have repressed Palestinian voices for years, influenced by the Israeli government (and no doubt, its US lobby)… As the journal ‘Foreign Policy’ reports, an ostensibly ‘democratic’ government suppresses a popular online movement with the acquiescence of ostensibly ‘liberal’ Silicon Valley executives…

  • Ramzy BAROUD: « How Coverage of Palestinians and Israel in NYT and Western Press Obscures the Occupation » (Informed Comment, Aug 26, 2022): click here!
While US and western mainstream and corporate media remain biased in favour of Israel, they often behave as if they are a third, neutral party. This is simply not the case. Take the New York Times coverage of the latest Israeli war on Gaza as an example. Its article on 6 August, “Israel-Gaza Fighting Flares for a Second Day” is the typical mainstream western reporting on Israel and Palestine, but with a distinct NYT flavour.
  • TAGHREED ALI: « Palestinians claim social media crackdown following latest Gaza war » (Al-Monitor, Aug 18, 2022): click here!
A fierce attack has been launched on Palestinian social media content, as dozens of accounts of Palestinian activists, journalists and media institutions have been restricted and deleted in the past year and after the latest Israeli war on Gaza.

Once again, the U.S. mainstream media is missing -- or covering up -- a central reason that Israel carried out a preemptive attack on Gaza, killing 46 people, including 16 children.
